UMN Public Roots is looking for volunteers to bring college success stories back to the public schools and communities they grew up in. The program is open to undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and faculty who are passionate about outreach in our public schools.
We work with public elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. If you are a college student, we help you design a short and impactful mini talk about your career path, starting from your time in these public schools. We also connect you with people at your former school who will help with scheduling your visit and finding classrooms where you can connect with students who are interested in similar topics to you. It is a very small time commitment, something you can put on your resume ("UMN Public Roots Ambassador"), and is very fun.
If you are a local public school, we get your former students back in your schools and help coordinate the content and time.
If you are interested in volunteering for this program, please contact Dr. Wright ([email protected]) or Nawal Abdurahman ([email protected]).
